RESEARCH INITIATIVES & PARTNERSHIP WITH MRU CENTRE FOR CHILD
In May of 2016, the Empowermind team established a partnership with Mount Royal University Centre for Child Well-Being and MRU Child Care Centre (MRUCCC) offering children between the ages of three to six with a six week yoga and mindfulness program. The curriculum was designed for the sole purpose of engaging these children in activities to promote self regulation and mindfulness through a yoga practice. A key objective of this program was to introduce new language and skills to children to help them increase self awareness and skill development when coping with a range of normal emotional experiences on a daily basis. Following this project a unique training opportunity emerged to equip early childhood educators with the skill set to bring yoga and mindfulness into classroom teachings.
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT YOGA AND MINDFULNESS TRAINING

THE TRAINING EXPERIENCE:
In January and February 2017 Empowermind delivered a twenty-four hour professional development yoga and mindfulness training for Early Childhood Educators (ECEs). ECE’s from Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary attended this training at MRU Centre for Child Well-Being.
• Foundations to Yoga Practice- teaching, training, and practice
• Self- Inquiry
• Teaching methodology - class sequencing (asana, pranayama, and mindfulness for children)
• Children’s Anatomy, physiology, and movement mechanics
• Teaching toolkit, activities and lesson plan building
